A Song of Ice and Fire: Blood and Stone
A clanswoman bearing the arms of a dead house
The Ghost of House Donniger is a figure of minor legend amongst the citizens of The Vale. Generally seen raiding amongst bands of Howlers, the Ghost appears as a warrior with the flesh of a corpse, bearing the arms of House Donniger, a minor noble house snuffed out by marauding clansmen some twenty years ago.
The reality, of course, is much less fantastical. The Ghost is no corpse made flesh, but merely a woman with a painted face, bearing the arms of House Donniger. While her identity is yet to be determined, she clearly has some tie to the dead house, having taken on their sigil and their ancestral axe. She seems to have taken up leadership of The Howlers, a formidable mountain clan known for their shrill warcries.
The reality, of course, is much less fantastical. The Ghost is no corpse made flesh, but merely the long lost heir of a fallen noble house, House Donniger of the Vale. Alva Donniger worked to unite the Mountain Clans, seeking freedom from their “Andal oppressors” and a home for themselves so that their people could survive the coming winter. Alva’s plans almost succeeded, until negotiations went sour when her own men betrayed her, killing Jon Arryn and severely wounding Lady Marsten in the process.
Alva now sits in house arrest at Hammerstone, awaiting her fate.
